Application Form and Guidance for Families Health and Wellbeing Resource Fund

For children and young people with Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND)

East Riding of Yorkshire Council and East Yorkshire Parent Carer Forum have been working in partnership during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The emotional wellbeing and mental health of children and young people with SEND and their families remains a national concern during lockdown.  Supporting parents and carers to engage children/young people in activities that they enjoy, either as part of a group activity or independently can help to support them.

Specialist Services have provided £10,000 funding to the Parent Carer Forum, to help support children/young people with SEND and their families to engage in activities or social and recreational opportunities. The funding provides the opportunity for parents and carers to apply for resources to help them engage in activities at home or in the community (adhering to the current Government rules and guidance).

The Parent Carer Forum will manage the application process and provide the resources to families and support groups for those with SEND. We encourage parents/carers to provide as much information as possible to support their applications highlighting how the resources will positively impact on the child/ren or families mental health and wellbeing.

Here are some examples of what the funding can be used for;

  • Resources to engage children and young people in an activity within the home, those wanting to request resources for future activities can request this via a single application. For example, home baking one day and arts and crafts the following week.
  • Board games and activities children/young people can do together or independently.
  • Sensory toys or equipment.
  • Clothing that supports outdoor physical activities (Following the current Government rules and guidance) such as suitable footwear to access exercise etc.
  • Audio books, music equipment or headphones.
  • Physically active videos games, (Exercise, dancing, sports)
  • Garden equipment or games.

Eligibility Criteria

Applications are for families that are residents of the East Riding of Yorkshire.

Support Groups’ Applications

Families Health and Wellbeing Funding is also accessible to Support Groups supporting families with children and young people with SEND who can apply for resources, activities or equipment to a number of families.

  • A group of individual families can request this via a Support Groups who can then apply.
  • For example, a group says they would like to host an interactive online activity with an external provider for families but at a cost.
  • Or if groups want to provide activity bags etc.

The EYPCF will not be providing funding directly to Support Groups to re-distribute to families but will resource groups to provide support.  Support Groups should submit an application in the same way as individual parents/carers.

  • We are asking currently if each family/support group to submit one application only until the funding has been reviewed where we may offer an opportunity for further second applications.
  • Parents/carers or support groups that are requesting specific items are requested to submit a screen shot or photograph to the email when submitting applications.
