PE
Intent Statement
The Physical Education curriculum is designed to develop students’ overall physical competence and skills for life. Students will build on their confidence, resilience and independence which will help to enhance student’s spiritual, moral, social and cultural development. Learning will focus on individual needs and progressive skill and knowledge development in order for students to be able to do more and remember more over time. Term 1 will focus on fundamental movement skills which will allow students to have the best chance of establishing and maintaining active lives across a broad range of activities and in the long term. A key outcome throughout this overarching topic is broadening physiological, psychological and sociocultural aspects of physical activity which support and encourage their healthy and active lifestyles in PE and beyond. Term 2 focuses on healthy, safe and effective participation within PE and the broader school community. Students will develop confidence, communication and their ability to cooperate with peers as well as carrying out activities using specialist equipment. Term 3 will build on the foundations of earlier terms and explore physical activity in an outdoor and adventurous setting. This will not only help develop levels of physical competence, but also their emotional and social development through exploration, adventure and play.
