World
Intent Statement
World enables young people to become globally and environmentally informed, thoughtful, enquiring citizens.
We have designed our World curriculum to develop and extend students’ knowledge of locations and environments and compare the magnitude of different scales from a social to global context. Students develop an understanding of the interactions between people and environments, and the migratory factors that drive change. Opportunities are bountiful to strengthen their competence in applying sound enquiry and investigative approaches to questions and hypotheses.
Pupils consolidate and extend their knowledge of the world’s major countries and their physical and human features. They begin to understand how geographical processes interact to create distinctive human and physical landscapes that change over time. In doing so, they become aware of increasingly complex geographical systems in the world around them. They develop greater competence in using geographical knowledge, approaches and concepts [such as models and theories] and geographical skills in analysing and interpreting different data sources. In this way pupils will continue to enrich their locational knowledge and spatial and environmental understanding
